The denim and western style shirt

Do you know the history of the western shirt ?

The history of the denim shirt dates back to the early 19th century, at the time of the conquest of the American West. A symbol of a cultural mix, it draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican shirts, originally made of silk or cotton, and the combat shirts worn by soldiers during the Civil War.

The denim shirt becomes a work garment that is both solid, practical and inexpensive.

It is a timeless, historical and emblematic piece that will then often be put in the spotlight in the cultural world and particularly in music or cinema, as here with Steve Mc Queen and Mick Jagger.

In search of clothing more suited to their lifestyle, the settlers turned cowboys adopted these Mexican shirts and reinterpreted them with a more resistant fabric. Thus was born the denim western shirt, made from the same fabric as jeans, in order to ensure durability in the face of the conditions of the Wild West.

Nothing was left to chance

Beyond its functional aspect, the western shirt sculpts and highlights the male silhouette. Its cut emphasizes the torso and shoulders, particularly thanks to its yoke in the back), designed to offer better resistance in this stressed area. It highlights the build while providing a confident look.

One of the characteristic details of this shirt is also its snap buttons. This choice is not insignificant: on horseback, cowboys were exposed to the risks of falls and sudden movements. Unlike classic buttons, which could be torn off, snap buttons avoided this problem and guaranteed a certain practicality. Also, they made it easier to put on and unbutton when riders wore gloves.

The denim shirt has stood the test of time without ever losing its appeal, combining heritage, resistance and elegance with disarming simplicity.

As yesterday...

This shirt embodies the essence of western style, it is the result of a subtle blend of authenticity, adventure and functionality.

In order to offer you this legendary piece in all its accuracy, we have worked closely with our Japanese denim supplier. Every detail has been meticulously preserved to remain faithful to the iconic model that has marked history.

It lends itself to all interpretations: worn fitted close to the body with a bandana or a tie for a neat look, or adopted in an oversized version for a more casual style. It is also the kind of shirt that girls love to borrow from their boyfriends.

Light and fluid, it can be worn in summer as an overshirt; over a white T-shirt for an airy and comfortable look. In winter, it slips under a sweater or jacket, offering warmth and elegance without sacrificing style.

We are currently working on a next version in cotton, and we will soon reissue the Vegas Brown in suede that you loved last year.
