Once again and like many pieces in our wardrobe, these pants are of military origin.

He appeared in the 19th century, during the colonial period, in two different armies.

The "Khaki" Pants In India

In India, by British settlers where it was called "khaki" (meaning "dust" in Hindi). Indeed, their uniform at the time was too conspicuous since it was red and white, so to make it more discreet, they adopted these straight pants by dyeing it in khaki. When for the sake of supplies, its dyeing was impossible, they dyed it with tea, coffee or the simple dust they found on the ground, hence its name.

Chino in the United States

American soldiers who were stationed in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War adopted these pants, renaming them the name we know today in reference to the Chinese merchants ("chinos" in Spanish) who sold them to them.

It will be democratized in the United States, at the heart of universities, after the 1950s. Indeed, after the war, veterans who wanted to study at university benefited from a special scholarship (thanks to the G.I Bill) allowing them to study at their convenience and it is at this time that the chino will be popularized.

It will also be taken up by the biggest movie stars like Belmondo or James Dean.

Our house (L'EGOÏSTE) offers it in a multitude of colors and more or less thick fabrics depending on the season, for men and women.

Faced with the success of our chinos for 10 years, we have also made our shorts on the same cut as these pants.
