The Herringbone Pattern

What is the Herringbone Pattern ?

We often talk about our herringbone pattern pieces. But what does that mean exactly ?

It is a geometric and symmetrical shape where several oblique stripes intersect regularly to form zigzags.

To obtain them using looms, the direction of the threads is alternated (twill weave).

In addition to being aesthetic, it allows above all to highlight certain colors and contrasts depending on how the threads are oriented. This is how it will give more relief and a hand to the fabric.

Today it is mainly used in the textile, decoration and construction sector.

What is its origin ?

The first pattern of this type dates back to 1800 BC. J-C in Greek pottery.

It was also used by the Romans, to make pavements on the ground.

It will then be developed in textile production and used in particular by the American army during the Second World War to make the uniform of its soldiers in a herringbone cotton canvas called HBT.

She used it for its sturdiness and quick drying made possible by its construction.

And for the Style ?

It has a fairly classic style, very refined and elegant. By combining it with other more "offbeat" pieces, you will give it a very trendy and original look.

One of our best-sellers is the Marius Chevron vest.

The grey, beige and navy models have just come out of our workshop in Lisbon! They are available on our online store and in our stores.

Our Herringbone Pieces

It is a pattern that we use to make different pieces in our collections, such as our waistcoats, our blazers or our Albert pleated trousers.
