A Casual and Elegant Vest

The devil is in the details

A few weeks ago, we told you about the Japanese raw red-selvedge denim using which we made our Icone jeans. In this same canvas, found in stretch this time, we created the Marius vest, our emblematic and historic piece.

We used the red-selvedge edges on the top of the vest's patch pockets. This edging is characteristic of Japanese know-how and the quality of this fabric. The vest opens and closes with copper buttons, like those on real jeans, as a nod to these famous pants.

It is a canvas that improves over time and washes. Its color will gradually fade and reveal unique shades of indigo.

Some history ...

The other particularity of this piece is obviously its shawl collar. It is continuous, rounded, without notch and wraps the neck well.

In the 19th century, clothes with a round neck were more likely to be indoor clothes. It also has its origins in the Victorian jacket which was the first to have one. Men would put this jacket on over their tuxedo before going to smoke to avoid spreading the smell of cigarettes on their evening attire.

Later, this collar was adapted to the peacoats of dockers who found it both practical and warm to protect themselves from the wind.

The shawl collar brings a sophisticated, original and almost mysterious style because it is less formal and common than the lapel collar. However, it remains versatile and easy to wear. It is a collar that is very fashionable at the moment.

The art of making

We made it in our workshop. All manufacturing stages were carried out by hand; cutting the canvas, mounting and sewing.

It is thanks to this traditional process that we can make impeccable and well-worn cuts. These are pieces that hug your body shape to become one with you.

how to compose

Here, the vest is combined with a light striped shirt and above all with white red-selvedge jeans, too. The combination of raw denim and white denim creates both a perfect harmony in color tones and a reminder of the relief of these authentic Japanese jeans.

“Jeans are a behavior, not an item of clothing.”
